Hirumi + Conor threw one of the most epic weddings I have ever had the privilege of shooting. It was at my favorite venue the Metropolitan Building in Long Island City, and this blog post cannot even begin to show all the unique details and personalization they put into their day. They opted to do a first look and were up for anything I suggested, which included Conor holding a stuffed pheasant and posing in a bathtub. Hirumi walked down the aisle to Arcade Fire and during their vows Conor proclaimed “I love you more than bread. I love you more than Oprah loves bread.” That sort of sums up my feelings about the wedding – I loved it more than bread. Their ceremony featured a circuit break, where everyone had to hold hands and when Conor and Hirumi held hands a lightbulb above their heads lit up. I’m probably not explaining it all that well, but it was pretty awesome. Also awesome, was the all female Mariachi band that played during cocktail hour and the ice cream cart that rolled out during the reception. Oh, and about the reception…each table had the theme of a different tv show or movie that matched the place cards Hirumi made. It was probably the first and last time I will see a gold spray painted gun on a table (Narcos), or a statue of Walter White at table 11. Strung lights decorated the room, along with dozens of old family photos and flowers placed throughout the space. But besides all the cool stuff they had (like BBQ catering), what I liked best about it all was Hirumi and Conor. They are so witty and smart, and such a perfect match for each other. Their love for each other was what truly made the day so special. Just like the lightbulb that hung over them, they light up when they are with each other. I am so happy for them and wish them the best marriage ever. Special shoutout to Karen Obrist – I couldn’t have shot it all without her help.
